Financial Week

Well the business pitch is in four days, it is so close and I feel like we still have so much to do so hopefully we can pull it all off for Monday.  This week in business we have been working on the financial part of the business plan and it has been hard...  Yesterday (Tuesday) I was freaking out in class because part of the financials got so hard and I had no idea how to do the break-even analysis.  But eventually it was all figured out.  So it turns out that we will have to have twenty thousand deliveries every month over the summer, for three months.  And eleven thousand deliveries a month over the winter, over a span of nine months in order to meet our break-even analysis.  With these numbers we mill break-even plus a little.  We have been working on the financial part of the business plan since I think Thursday and we are still not done!  We still have like six parts we have to do and it is taking so long because we have so many different things that we have to talk about in every section of every part of the business plan.  We are so close but still so far till the end of the year!  And as of right now the seniors have seven school days left, I did not think that we had school next Friday but I just found out that we do :,( so I am sad.  Because I know that other years they did not come the day after but maybe they did, I do not know, I really just do not want to come.  And all the teachers are trying to cram stuff in I have a debate tomorrow in Government, a Stats project, a new biology project to present, and then this big project for business.

Business Pitch

This week in business we worked on our business pitch and I think that it went really well!  We had Mr. Gargaro's class come in to listen to our pitches and give us feedback.  They actually gave our group really good feedback and we benefited a lot from it.  Mr. Gargaro actually gave us a really good idea to use a rewards program so people that order from us every week will have some type of benefit.  We are going to put this in our business plan and use it to our benefit.  Then we started working on the financial part of the business plan and honestly I really do not like it,  It is pretty hard.  This week I have about given up on school because we pretty much have no time left.  The beginning of this week we worked on modules and I hated them!  The quizzes were okay but I hated how you had to listen to every video in order to get to the next step.  It took me two hours to finish because it took the whole class plus a little bit of time when I got home.  Actually, that night I went home and did my homework right away so I would be free for the night and the last module was not that bad.  This week will be the last week for the business plan and to get ready for our pitch! Scary Scary!

Business Plan Week

So this week we really jumped into the Business Plan project and we have been working on it all week.  So far I think we have gone over about six pages that we had to do?  I thought this was going to be way harder than it actually is but once you get going it is not that bad but then again as you keep going you keep coming up with new things that may go wrong with the business.  When working on the business plan I feel bad because I am constantly asking Mrs. Weser questions when she is trying to get work done.  I will ask one question turn around work for a few minutes then turn back around and ask another.  I am hoping that the presentation on the day of shark tank will be easier than creating this whole business plan.  The good thing is that we will not have an exam which makes it so much easier since it is the end of the year.  Since it is only Wednesday so far we have done one case study for the week.  The videos are really weird that we have to watch and Arron and Sylvia are not the smartest, they should never be business owners.  I have a feeling that today in class we will take a quiz on the case study that we did yesterday, learn about two or three pages in the business plan and then have the rest of the time to work on

it because we need as much time as we can get.

Project Week

This week we did out interview project.  I was with Nick and we pretended to be interviewing Mark Zuckerberg, the creator of Facebook.  When I came up with the script and doing some research on him, I actually found it really interesting.  I found out a lot about him and how he came to be and I liked to learn about him.  I did not really like doing the actual video part because I do not like being on camera and talking in front of people.  Then we did a case study everyday and took a short quiz which was good because it was an easy quiz grade for us.  Then we were introduced to our business plan project that will be our final.  I could not believe how long the business plan document is going to be and I have no more motivation so I do not know how I am going to be able to do it.  Me, Moira, and Danielle chose to pair up with food places at the ocean front and we will deliver food to people of the beach.  So we will make an app where they can pinpoint there exact location and we will take a four wheeler to them so we can bring them there food.  Therefore, they do not have to get up and walk up and down the whole beach looking for food.  We will work for other business but we still be our own small business within them.  I think that we came up with a good idea and I hope that we will be able to come up with a good project for this plan.

The Week Back from Spring Break

So this was the first week back from Spring Break... and it was rough.  It is only Wednesday and I have no idea how I am going to be able to make it through the rest of the week.  I can barely get up in the morning and I feel like I have given up on school already since we have like a month of school left.  So we have been back only three days and I already have three projects to be working on and three quiz's this week.  So now it is clear that all of the teachers are going to try and push everything in these last few weeks.  However, in business we are still working on our marketing projects and just got introduced to a new project that will be due next Thursday.  The good thing is Danielle, Moira, and I already have two of our marketing posters done and our video is almost done so we got that done pretty fast.  We also had a quiz yesterday which was a little different then I expected but still think that I did pretty well on it.  Then today we watched the Oprah Effect which I found really cool and interesting.  It was just amazing to see how easily Oprah can influence something on people.  She can say that she likes a small product and that person's product will increase in profits by millions of dollars.  Just one little thing that she says can have other people that she barely knows become successful business people.  I personally think that she has this effect just because of who she is.  Because when people are trying to sell something and that product is on a celebrity, it sells so well.  So it is the same case for the Oprah Effect.  People look up to Oprah and she is a lot of people's role model so when she says that she uses, loves, or likes something from a business the people that look up to her are going to do exactly what she does.

Accounting Week

This week all we pretty much did was accounting.  At first I liked accounting because it was not so hard, then it got a lot more detailed and I did not like it anymore.  However, the quiz was not that bad because I kind of like to do things like we did, that have a lot of steps, organization, and something repetitive- it is kind of like when you are cleaning something and it has to be perfect so OCD.  The good thing was that my trial balance balanced at the end perfectly!  This week we also got a new seating arrangement but that was not bad.  Then next week we have mid-terms and I know that this accounting stuff will be on there which will make the exam soo long, but it should not be that bad.  On a side note, Seniors, after mid-terms we only have like five or six weeks not nine :) That is the good news!  I am really glad that we were able to drag out accounting before the mid-term instead of rushing it because it would have been a lot worse and harder if it were rushed.  This week for the thought question on Thursday we had to make a story of some sort with the words that Mrs. Weser gave us and it is always really hard to come up with a decent story on the spot or in that short amount of time.  However, Pablo's Poem was actually really good.  He made the poem in like ten minutes using all of the words he needed and it was still so good.  Also for the thought question on Friday we had to read the headlining article.  My article was about Snapchat and it it was really interesting because that is the new biggest thing in America.  Snapchat has over one hundred million users and Disney world is actually using one of the largest friended user on Snapchat.  This man has 240,000 friends so they have him go to the Halloween parties every night from Labor Day till October 31st and he dresses as soup.  He stands outside to take pictures with people and kids and shows how fast that someone else takes a picture of it off snapchat and it posts it somewhere else.  Hope everyone has a good weekend :)

Monopoly Week

This week in business we started learning about Accounting which at first I did not seem like it would be interesting but it is more interesting then I thought it would be just a lot of work.  So Monday we took notes on accounting and learned some of the things we need to do to be successful in accounting.  We learned the equation, assets = liabilities + owner's equity and how to balance it.  The balancing part was very easy, just some simple math.  Then we learned about the ways to record every transaction which was a little confusing at first but it is easier now, however, there is a lot to remember to write down.  We did a worksheet on that to teach us how to record the information and by the end of the class we were playing monopoly.  Well my group never really started that day because we could not figure the money situation at all and then we only had one die when we should have had two.  Then on Wednesday we played monopoly the whole class and it got so chaotic because I was constantly writing transactions down.  When I would be buying a piece of property someone else would be landing on my other property and have to pay me so I would have to write a lot at one, I got through two whole pages of transactions.  I like playing monopoly in class because one, it is a game and two, it is really laid back you just have to remember to write down every time you get money or lose money.  Also, it seems like Danielle's group is doing really well with their sales for the week, so that's good!  I bought a donut from them today and it was really good!  I think that they are going to be very successful, good luck!

The Lorax Week

Well this week we started off on Monday by finishing the Lorax so we could answer the questions write the essay.  Everyday when we watched the Lorax we also watched it in Advanced Biology so we got to watch it twice in one day.  But I did not really mind because I kind of liked the movie.  So when it came to the paper it was actually kind of easy to write on because there was so much information that could be incorporated, however, I also had to look on the internet for information on real life business examples for the paper.  I think the essay went well!  Then on Tuesday we presented our Business Law projects which i actually liked, it was interesting.  I thought everyone did really good on their presentations and made good questions!  Then on Wednesday we took the quiz which was not bad at all and it was really nice of Mrs. Weser to let us use our notes on the quiz for five minutes because I did not know the question on the taxes.  For the rest of the class since no one was there we watched Shark Tank which was fun because the show is really interesting.   But I think that the show can be really hard to watch because of that one guy that is realllly mean.  I really thought the bed heater was a fantastic idea it was just the price he was asking was way too much.  I do not know anyone that would pay five hundred dollars for that so I think that if he priced it at around two hundred dollars then he would be very successful.  I also thought the chap stick was a clever idea but like the sharks said it was not good for a business, it still needed to work some things out.  Then on Thursday, today I stayed home because I was sick ;(  I got up for school but did not feel too well but I decided to try and go anyways.  First, I live by a port so one of those eighteen wheelers broke down and it took me forever to even get on 164 to get to school so I would be late anyways.  Then I got all the way to Jefferson and I felt so sick I had to turn around and go home.  Now, I am wishing that it would snow a lot so we would not have school tomorrow but it is not gonna snow a lot I feel so that's sad ;(  I also thought this week would feel forever because all the days we had off but it actually went by really fast.

Another Snow Week

Well last week we missed everyday because of all the snow and then we came back on Monday and we all came to know that we were going to get more snow.  So the three days we had school we tried to catch up on work but it was hard since we had two more snow days this week.  Therefore, it is going to be hard to catch back up again.  However, these two snow days were a lot more fun then the last ones because last week I stayed in the house the whole time.  But this week me, Madison, Emmy, and Moira all spent the night at Moira's house Wednesday night and Thursday night.  So since we were all together it was really fun we did both digital learning days together.  We did the classwork then went sledding.  It was so much fun but now I have so many bruises from hitting the snow and the sled.  Then today we did the classwork and played in the snow again.  We also went in the hot tub and in the pool for a few seconds.  Once again it is going to be hard to go back to school because of all the time we have had off.  So this week we were learning about business ethics and how businesses benefit from the ethics they perform.  We watched the Lorax to see the business side of the movie and to write a paper.  I never saw the Lorax before that and never really wanted to but now that I have seen most of it it is so cute and funny.  I never thought a Dr. Seuss movie would have a business side to it that we could write about in Business class.  Overall, it is kind of sad to think that these are probably the last day that we will have off of school for awhile because we will not have any more snow days for the rest of the year.

The Week with no School

This week was an interesting week because we did not have real school at all.  Monday we of course had off for President's day but then it decided to snow a lot and get really cold.  So the snow froze.  So we missed Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.  However, Wednesday and Friday were digital learning days.  I would actually rather have digital learning days the rest of the year than actually going to school.  Because we were able to stay in bed, sleep in, finish "school" early, finish work fast and early, be on our phones, eat whenever, and a lot of other things.  Also it was easier to just go in and get the work done with no distractions and get in the work mode to get everything done in the time given.  After the first digital day all the teachers noticed that we were getting all the work done before the time given for that class so they found a way to make us have to do the work given in that time period, haha.  Its weird to think that we had a total of 9 days off in a row.  It is going to be rough starting back school on Monday. I would much rather stay home with the Digital days... On the other hand, this week in business we finished Org Charts and moved on to Business Laws and Regulations.  Although most of the Org Charts were learned outside of school it was still pretty interesting.  But I think the laws will be fun to learn and easier to learn since we are doing projects on them.  Me and Moira have the Employee Laws which are really important to earn about because one of the biggest mistakes is treating employees badly.  So it will be interesting to hear what kind of laws there are for businesses to follow with their employees.  It's great we do not have to make up any days! :)

Business Week

This week was the first week for one of the groups to go.  The first group to go was my group with Gavin and Moira.  We started Monday with two boxes of donuts and two packs of muffins.  The first day we did not get that much business because no one knew about it but we did make some money.  So for the next day we got one more box of donuts and sold out of most of them.  Then for Wednesday we bought two more boxes and sold out of all of them.  We kept the two boxes of muffins for the whole week because they were not selling and they were too expensive for the quality.  Thursday we did not sell because of mass so we gave that day to Fefe's group so they could sell their bracelets.  Then for today we bought five boxes of donuts and by today we were out of muffins.  We bought five boxes because we predicted we would sell two boxes in the morning regularly and Mrs. Ellis bought eighteen.  However, we still have some left over and we are going to sell the rest during lunch and homeroom with Mrs. Weser's approval.  From Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday morning we have made $122 with some change.  However, we still have to sell the rest of the donuts later in the day so we will be making more money.  Overall, we have been successful because we are able to pay our investors back with interest, raise our salaries, and still give the profit to the class for a party.  I thought it was kind of fun to do this project because it allowed you to run a "business" for a week and see how it works.  The only thing that I did not like was waking up at 5:45 to get to school at 7.

Pitch Week

This week we worked a lot with our new groups in order to prepare for our pitch today!  We have to pitch our ideas to the investors and if they invest then we get $20-$22 to start our business!  I think that we found pretty good prices in order to maintain our money.  We found 12 donuts for under $3 and muffins for $3.  This week we also took a test that was pretty easy and just a review from econ and we were learning the same information in Government.  We also practiced our phone calls which I actually thought was a lot of fun and probably the thing I liked most this week.  We got with a partner and went over phone calls which was kind of awkward with being in front of the class and pairing with your friends that make you laugh.  Personally, I like to be alone when I call for something important.  We also learned the right way to dress for a business meeting which we all get to be tested on today because we had to dress up in order to give our pitch.  I think that this business assignment will be fun because it gives us a chance to see how a minor business works.  We are able to see how to distribute money, use the money we were given, and the money we have earned.  It is good to be in the morning because a lot of people do not eat breakfast so there is something already waiting for them at school.  I think that our "business" is going to be very successful! Along with all the other ones :)

Spirit Week During Business

This was the second week of business but it was the same week of spirit week so it was a little crazy.  It was a little hard to get things done in classes because everyone was focused on other things and talking about other things.  And all the classrooms were a little chaotic because of all the decorations being used in the classrooms.  However, we still got a lot of fun things done in business class.  This week in business we did a lot of fun activities.  We watched Mcdonald's Big Mac, we changed up the groups and we each created a business that could be successful next to the school, our first groups publicized the new lunch menus that the school will be getting.  I really liked when we thought of ideas for the lunch menus because I think every group came up with a really good idea to get it known.  My group with Moira, Tommy, Josh, and Oliver came up with the idea to print one hundred fliers that said "No chicken patty makes my tummy happy" with a picture of a chicken patty on it.  Then we all went outside with some help from other classmates and put a flyer on every car outside then on the way outside and with the extras we slid them under classroom doors when everyone was in class so the teacher could remind them.  I really thought Danielle's group had a good idea too.  Her group printed fliers and put them in every single locker and I actually happen to see mind today so I know everyone else saw them too.  As for our idea I know that everyone saw them because they were on the cars and in classrooms.  After school while standing outside with some friends I noticed that everybody saw the fliers because they had to take them off their car before they drove because they were on the driver's side of the car.  I think that these two ideas should be used more often with other things within the school because it would make everything else more well known.

First Week of Business

This was our first week in Introduction Business and it was a short week.  Because it was a short week we did not have much to do this week.  The first day of class we went over the syllabus, was toured around the classroom, took two personality tests to see what our personality type was.  Once we did that we put them on a sticker so it made it easier to form our teams for projects, though the teams will change.  Then the second day we had our first thought questions and first homework about wants and needs.  We made bridges with our teams and ways to make the voting for the school more popular and then we expanded those ideas.  And now finally we are making our blogs so we can work on them every week.  So this week we learned about team work and how it can help us or hurt us.  I think that teamwork can help or hurt us because in a team one or two people can only do the work but it can help because we can have different personalities from every person that can help the whole group.  The teamwork was really shown when we made the bridges with two minutes of talking about ideas and five minutes of building with no talking.  This shows good teamwork because whoever had the longest bridge was the winner and if they won with the longest bridge it means that they had good teamwork together.
